Monday 21 September was a milestone in the building of the new Cobo Community Centre, when Rihoy & Son starts the first stage of demolishing the existing structure. Plans to replace the existing St Matthew’s Church Hall have been in development for over 10 years and after a successful start to the fundraising campaign the vision is finally becoming a reality.

The project, which is at the heart of the Castel community, has commenced with the removal of the roof sheet material. Site mobilisation is now complete and the construction team is ready to start work.

‘Rihoy & Son is very proud to be the project’s main contractor, working alongside the Cobo Community Centre Board and the professional team,’ says Gavin Rihoy, Managing Director, Rihoy & Son. ‘The finished facility will be a huge improvement for the community and we are sure the start of the work will be a boost to the project’s fundraising ambitions.’

The new community centre will take around 12 months to complete. Careful consideration has been given to the design to give the space as much flexibility as possible. The main features of the design are a divisible main hall, an easily maintained and more up-to-date structure, a well-equipped kitchen which can be accessed from all areas, meeting rooms, disabled facilities and access and toilets that can be accessed from all areas, together with well-planned parking.

Once the structure has been demolished the construction team will clear the site and start the foundation stage of the project.
